Great Real Estate Deals in Medieval Hilltop Village

Irsina, Basilicata, Italy

X

Steeped in Tradition and History, Irsina, Italy is Working to Attract Foreign Real Estate Buyers

X
Basilicata is a sparsely populated, relatively undiscovered, mountainous region in southern Italy.  While it does not have many people, it does have medieval villages, a rich culture, delicious Mediterranean cuisine and a beautiful (but short) coastline with clean beaches.  Basilicata also used to be one of Italy's poorest regions (this has recently changed with discovery of oil), and some amazing real estate bargains can be found throughout the region's towns and villages.

X

One such village is Irsina, an utterly charming, hilltop community that is attempting to regenerate itself by restoring its historic buildings using only local artisans and then selling the renovated properties to buyers who will continue to invest in the local economy by buying local products and frequenting local businesses.  This project is called Terre D’Irsina, an endeavor backed by Irsina's city council in conjunction with private developers, and is aimed at foreign buyers seeking the authentic, rustic Italy, a place steeped in history and tradition, with cobblestone streets, pastel-colored houses, tasty restaurants and stunning views of the valley below with its olive trees, grapevines and fields of grain.

Prices of properties available for sale start at € 28,000 ($36,000) for a large studio apartment with vaulted ceilings.  Heating is not included in the price but can be added.  € 40,000 ($51,500) will fetch a two bedroom house with a kitchenette/living room, marble floors, vaulted ceilings and a small outdoor courtyard.  There are more expensive properties, but these prices are common, and it is safe to say that better real estate prices will rarely be found in such a delightful destination.

Irsina is one hour from Bari Airport (Ryan Air-serviced) and 90 minutes from Brindisi Airport (also Ryan Air-serviced).   It is 20 minutes from the bustling town of Matera (where Mel Gibson filmed his film The Passion of Christ), and perhaps most importantly, it is 40 minutes from the beach.

Foreigners may purchase real estate in Italy as long as Italian citizens may buy property in the purchaser's home country (reciprocity).  American may, therefore, buy real estate in Italy.  For more information about the Terre D’Irsina project, visit http://www.realpointitaly.com/property-for-sale-irsina-italy.htm
