Lake Chapala, is Mexico's
largest body of water and is bordered by several
towns and communities, most notably Lake Chapala and
Ajijic, where a large number of U.S. citizens,
Canadians and Europeans have retired, enjoying a
mild year-round climate and cost-of-living roughly half of the U.S. national
average.
Merida,
Yucatan, Mexico
Merida is a city
full of Colonial charm and is known as the
"White City," thanks in part to its
cleanliness and the fact that many of its historic
buildings are constructed from white limestone.
Progreso,
Yucatan, Mexico
For years, Progreso was a
sleepy port city, but Canadian
and U.S. expatriates stumbled upon the area in the
1960s and 1970s the small English-speaking community was
born. Today, Progreso is on the cruise ship
route and has become slightly more upscale, but the
city is still laid-back, friendly, affordable and
has great beaches.
